Date of Event Rydalmere Cricket Club: Wed Mar 31, 2021 2:35PM
WE ARE THE 6TH GRADE CHAMPIONS!
It's time to celebrate!
A massive congrats to our mighty Wrens 6th grade team who have been crowned NCU PREMIERS 2020-21!
The Club is proud of your achievements, particularly your sportsmanship, leadership and the ruthless way you won your grand final matches.
It was amazing to watch this powerhouse Wrens team play their best cricket in the Grand Final.
Congratulations to Wrens players in all Wrens team for a thoroughly enjoyable year.
6TH GRADE GRAND FINAL
The Wrens thank our outstanding leaders: DAVE BERRIMAN & RAFI EBRAHIMI. Fantastic leadership all year - you represented the Wrens with distinction.
The mighty Wrens Mo's finished 1st on the ladder so a draw would be enough to win the Premiership. The Vikings were a dangerous team who had beaten the Mo's during the season. Both teams were stacked with bowlers so runs on the board would decide the winner.
DAY 1 - 'WRENS BOWLERS LOOK TO DOMINATE 1st INNINGS
The Wrens bowling attack opened with fire and fury and within a blink of an eye The Vikings were in early trouble.
ABDUL 'Muzza' EBRAHIMI and LAWRENCE VERNON were a lethal opening combination. Lawrence is our fiery fast bowler who put fear into The Vikings openers. ABDUL was the magician with left-arm hooping inswing on off and middle stump.
JARROD 'Reggie' ROBERTS was introduced into the attack bowling right-hand outswing on a perfect line and length.
MUZZA and REGGIE put on a bowling masterclass. Both bowlers were devastating with wickets tumbling to relentless pressure. Time seemed to stand still as The Vikings plummeted to 4 for 24 after 14 overs.
DAVE BERRIMAN replaced JARROD who had superb bowling figures of 6 for 12 off 6 overs. The carnage continued unabated.
The Vikings were 9 for 45 after 24 overs but put on a very handy 10th wicket partnership to be all out 74. This partnership brought The Vikings bowlers back into the game and was a defendable target with disciplined bowling.
MUZZA finished with the magical figures of 4 for 31 off 15 overs. DAVE BERRIMAN bamboozled the opposition with flight and length finishing with 3 for 15 off 6 overs.
Most impressive was the Mo's fielding which was first class. We saw fielding as good as any 1st grade game:
* superb run outs by LAWRENCE and MAX VERNON
* a skillful catch by DARREN FALLA in first slip flying to his right
* REGGIE taking a wonderful low one-handed catch at gully
* and one of the greatest catches taken in a grand final, STEVE 'Poppy' RAVEN took a screamer at point.
THE RAVE ran in 15 metres and diving full-length forward to snatch the catch with knuckles on the grass.
WRENS BATSMEN READY FOR BATTLE.
No score is easy to get in a grand final. Sometimes the bigger totals are easier to get than the smaller ones. The Wrens needed a good 1st innings lead.
The Vikings have an excellent bowling attack so the Wrens had to overcome a hostile spell. The Wrens got to 4 for 79 so they claimed the 1st innings win.
MAX VERNON was the pick of the batsmen so far with a valuable 42 runs. Max's aggression put pressure back on The Vikings bowlers as runs piled on quickly.
Wrens batted deep down the scorecard but runs were needed to post a decent lead.
The Vikings struck back hard claiming another 3 quick wickets to have the Wrens 7 for 94.
RAFI EBRAHIMI played an excellent knock of 24* to bring the total to all out 129. The Wrens held a 55 run lead at stumps Day 1.
DAY 2 - WRENS BOWLERS GO FOR THE KILL IN 2nd INNINGS
The game was in the balance and the first hour was crucial. The Vikings needed to secure an 80- 100 run lead which required positive but selective stroke-play.
The Wrens exploded off the blocks and had The Vikings in trouble at 3 for 10 in 4 overs. JARROD ROBERTS and ABDUL EBRAHIMI opened with outstanding spells.
The Wrens onslaught proved too much and the classy Vikings team were unable to recover. The game was over in 20 overs with the gallant Vikings all out for 40.
REGGIE finished with a superb 4 for 21 and MUZZA showed all his class taking 6 for 19 and 10 wickets for the match! Well done Muzza for winning the Man of the Match.
The mighty Mo's finished Minor Premiers and their display in the Grand Final showed why. It was one of the most clinical victories seen with ruthless bowling and skillful fielding.
Congratulations to The Vikings 6th grade team for playing fantastic cricket all year. Your spirit and sportsmanship in the Grand Final was outstanding. You did your Club proud.
Go the mighty Wrens!
